The job market has changed dramatically in the past decade, particularly with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting virtually every industry. However, not all sectors and occupations have been adversely affected. According to the Australian government’s Labour Market Insights here are the occupations with the most significant projected employment growth. #1 – Certificate of Aged Care Counselling
With the strain the COVID-19 pandemic has put on our healthcare system, it is not surprising that healthcare jobs are in demand. In fact, jobs in healthcare and social assistance are expected to grow by 15.8 per cent by November 2026.
Aged care in particular is a growing profession, primarily because people are tending to live longer. And along with ageing, comes specific challenges that require qualified and compassionate experts to assist.

#2 – Certificate of Disability Services
The area of aged and disabled carers is one of the largest employing occupations in the health care and social assistance sector. In terms of disability services, this is partly due to the Australian Government investing over $64 million in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in the 2018-2019 budget.

In 2020, the Federal Government provided more than $20 million in additional funding for research to improve mental health care and reduce suicides in Australia. This is also affecting the demand for jobs in the sector.

#5 – Certificate of Information Technology
Another occupation with considerable projected employment growth is software and applications programmers. Projected employment growth is estimated to increase by 27 per cent by November 2026.
However, IT technology as a whole — including the areas of e-commerce — is a vital contributor to every industry sector, from sport and retail to sport and finance (and everything in between!) Again the COVD-19 pandemic has played a part, with many businesses forced to move online and offer work-from-home solutions for staff.

This is mainly due to the increase in cybercrime in Australia. In 2021, a report issued by the Australian Cyber Security Centre cited an increase of 13 per cent in reports of cybercrime from July 2020 to July 2021.
